Chauvet MiN Spot - DMX512 LED Moving Yoke Review

Chauvet MiN Spot - DMX512 LED Moving Yoke

Let me start by saying I do NOT own this product. However I was contemplating buying this product, so I went to Guitar Center to see it with my own two eyes. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The output is just not there yet. It's a cool little moving yoke fixture with a gobo wheel and smooth pan/tilt, but it's just not bright enough. Currently they've got it with a 14W RGB LED, other fixtures today are sporting a 20W RGB.
LED technology is the obvious direction for stage and architectural lighting, but it's still got a ways to go. Especially in the realm of economical technology.

Chauvet LED Rain 64 - RGB spot Review

Chauvet LED Rain 64 - RGB spot

Purchased this to use with some led par 64 36. I knew it would not be as powerful due to the smaller LEDs, but thought it would have a nice wash effect for architectural lighting. It did not work great as an uplight, but it does look nice on truss or light tree. This would probably work great in a location where a stationary spot is needed, but in that situation, why waste the extra money on leds unless you are looking for enery efficiency or heat reduction.

CHAUVET Obey 3 Review

CHAUVET Obey 3
Average Reviews:

I ordered this controller as a simple control for the uplights (mega bar 50's, and par 64 led's) that I use in my business. I wanted something quick and easy to set a color if I had a simple single color setup or had to flip to sound active later in the night. Well the controller is exactly what they say, SIMPLE BASIC and no bells and whistles. For what i was looking for i guess i'd have to say it will do those things. I did have my hopes the chases and sound active mode would play with the individual lights a little bit, but they all just flash and change colors the same, all the lights are controlled as one. I was a bit dissapointed in that, being all the lights have the same dmx address. Was it worth the $50 I guess for a basic pretty easy to figure out control, but wouldn't pay much mor for it. All and all it will suit some of my needs but will be opting for a new full function controller. If you have plans for more than just RGB color mixing, save the $50 and look for a true contoller. For basic control I guess it fits the bill.

Product was shipped quickly. This is the first time I've used a SlimPar 64 device. Found it easy to setup and configure for either stand-alone or DMX operation. The unit is light weight, but feels like it will be durable. I'll be purchsing additioanl units in the months ahead.

Chauvet OBEY40 Universal DMX-512 Controller Review

Chauvet OBEY40 Universal DMX-512 Controller
Average Reviews:

I was disappointed not to find any reviews on these DMX light controllers when I was looking to buy one... so let me be the first to review this one in hopes of helping you make a decision.
First - I'm not a pro, this is just an expensive hobby for me. I have 6 intelligent DMX lights connected to my OBEY40 right now and the unit seems to be working perfectly. I can control up to twelve different lights (I only can afford 6) and the slide channels are smooth to operate. In fact, everything so far with the unit works just as it should.
NOTE: Do not even attempt to purchase a DMX controller unless you know how to use one, or are willing to spend a few hours reading the instructions. I watched a few uTube videos to get me started, then poured myself a beer and read all the manuals. Remember: you must have your manuals for each of your lights because they explain what each channel does on your DMX controller (You can probably download them if you've lost them).
I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish there were more led lights on the unit to show which scene you're on. Sometimes it's easy to get lost while switching around in your programs... but maybe I just need some more practice?
With those warnings being said, it is a MUST to have a DMX controller if you own these type of lights. You get so much more out of your lights, and have a way better chance of getting a freaky party going. Good Luck.

Chauvet Vue 4.1 Review

Chauvet Vue 4.1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
How to rate this light....?
I guess I'll go at this task in two sections.
1. The light is similar to the other lights in the Vue series, (The 1.1, 2.1, and 3.1). It has a roundish brushed aluminum housing with an adjustable mounting bracket that can be rotated, as well as slid forward or to the rear. It's a DMX light, but will also run in auto or sound active modes. It has a digital display on the rear as well as the standard DMX and power in and out ports. And it has a sound sensitivity adjustment knob, as well as a mic for the sound active mode like the other lights in the Vue series.
This light has a very interesting, and also widely varied, set of patterns that it puts out. The light also rotates the board the LEDs are mounted on for even more variety. Do yourself a favor and look this light up on Youtube to watch a video or two of everything it does. As an LED fixture it runs cool, and has very low power draw. It also runs nearly silent, even in a room with nothing else making sound. It's very lightweight, and super bright as well. An all around great light as far as features and pattern interest goes. It's also a very inexpensive light at the moment, considering the features you get. I originally had bought a Vue 2.1 and was happy with it. Then the price on these dropped and I sold the 2.1 and grabbed one of these to replace it. The extra LEDs and patterns was a no brainer. Or so I thought.
2. Now for the second part of the review.
Can you get a good one?
Here's what happened to me...
I ordered one of these through Amazon, from one of the large music stores that sell this model light. It got here fast, and the box and light were in good outward condition. When I plugged it in there was a section of LEDs out. If you look at the way the LEDs are layed out in this light, there are three elongated "S" shapes that run from the outer edge, through the center of the pattern, and on the the opposite outer edge. One is green, one is red, and one is blue. Half the blue "S" was out in the light they sent me. I took advantage of their excellent return policy and sent it back. I then ordered another light from another of the large music stores that sell these through Amazon, just in case the first place had gotten a bad batch. This second light also got here fast, and again, both the light and outer box were in good condition. But this one had four dead green LEDs in one of the central clusters. I was going to send it back as well, but decided to call Chauvet to see if there was a simple fix that might save me the extra time and hassle of another return. Sadly the only fix was a part replacement or another exchange. They sent me a new LED board, since I told them I was familiar with electronics and could replace it without too much trouble. The replacement board showed up two days later from Fed Ex and I installed it. Unfortunately the replacement had half of a red "S" section dead on it. That's three for three defects in these boards. I called Chauvet back to see if they would have any problem with me swapping some good LEDs from the replacement board, with the four dead ones on my second lights board. They gave me the thumbs up, and after some LED soldering, the light was fixed. It's been working fine now for over a week.
In short, the 4.1 is an amazing light, if you get a good one, and Chauvet is super easy to deal with if you have a problem.
If you get a dud, you may go through several of them before you find one that works fresh out of the box.
I don't know what to say about longevity. This light has a two year warranty on it from the factory, and it may be needed, since the ones I've had were both new and defective from the get go. They obviously have some manufacturing problems with the LED board. But that doesn't necessarily mean the light won't hold up over time. I guess I'll find out over the next two years.
If you get a good one the light gets five stars.
If you don't get a good one out of the box, it gets much harder to rate them.
I'll post any further problems if they arise.

Chauvet OBEY10 Universal DMX-512 Controller Review

Chauvet OBEY10 Universal DMX-512 Controller
Average Reviews:

I have used this controller for my color changers for two parties so far and it works great. Easy to setup and program. Was perfect for the simple spotlight scanners I use for the stage. I like the smooth action of the wide sliders and the lighter colored buttons show up well in a dark room unlike the black on black that is so common. It has a well written manual. I plan to buy another and get rid of an older controller that is becoming unreliable and the 2U rack size of this unit will give me more space in my SKB portable rack. For under $100 I am very happy.

This unit puts out a lot of light. It is definitely a pinpoint spot. It does not wash nearly as much as my regular spot bulbs. However, the light has a definite blue tint to it. I'm not sure how that may affect the color on the video of my performances, but will keep an eye on it.

CHAUVET Line Dancer LED Review

CHAUVET Line Dancer LED
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these just before the 2010 New Years eve party I was doing lighting for, not expecting it to even show up with all the other lights I had already. It was so bright and the patterns weaved their way around the other lights. It was so unique and added so much to the show that I bought another in January for the next dance. Now I can have one on the floor and one on the ceiling. A great light, super bright and very responsive to music. Chauvet does have a few duds in their LED lineup like the LED mushroom. That one was almost invisible it was so dim and made a grinding noise all the time. I highly recommend the LED Line Dancer though. I do have a regular Line Dancer with a standard bulb but this one is so much better, much larger lines and changes color while using 1/10 the power. It is also very quiet.

I'm in Australia and this light was shipped to me from the US. All I had to do was purchase an adapter and it worked beautifully. I use it via dmx and it's quick and the motors run smoothly. The LED is bright. On the negative side - the power plug is built into the unit and not detatchable. Check out my Youtube page for a video review (DjNXgen).
