Chauvet ELAN Review

Chauvet ELAN
Average Reviews:

I received the Chauvet Elan in excellent condition, shipping was pretty quick. I ordered two of them and they cover a wide area, they are a bit bulky but light weight, overall they perform well, the price was the cheapest I seen them for. I use them in sound active mode, they follow the beat of the music pretty good. Overall I would recommend them.

American DJ WITECH-8-WIRELESS Wireless Controller, 8 Channel, for non-DMX fixtures Review

American DJ WITECH-8-WIRELESS Wireless Controller, 8 Channel, for non-DMX fixtures
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like most DJs I have been using the sc-8 wired version. Finally American DJ came out with a remote controlled wireless version! I love this unit. It saves me set up time because I don't have to run a 50' cable to my booth and place the switch panel there. Now I set up my stand and lights, plug them in and I'm done. The power pack feels solid. It's a little thicker than the wired version pack. It has eight electric plugs, one 1/4" UC3 jack to control 1 American DJ light (more if daisy chained), and a circuit breaker. You can plug in eight lights and turn them on and off with the remote. No flash button, just on and off. Also the UC3 control is great. I have two of the American DJ Mega Pixel LED lights so I plug in the UC3 control to the "Master" light and run a XLR cable to the second light to link them together. The remote also has the the three buttons to control any UC3 light, just like the wired UC3 remote except there is not a flashing light on the remote to show what mode you are in. It reacts fast and works through walls at a distance.I put a clamp on it to hold it to the light stand.
The remote is small and takes an 23A battery. Push the buttons firmly and it works every time.
It has an all on and all off button you hold for 5 seconds. This is 16 amps and will handle all your LED lights great. I love this and will never go back to a wired lighting controller. Good product!

American DJ Supply UC3 Special Effects Lighting and Equipment Review

American DJ Supply UC3 Special Effects Lighting and Equipment

This remote is simple with 3 buttons and a 1/4" plug. The cable is 35' long which seems to be plenty long. I use it with the American DJ Megapixel LED light and it's great. With that light I can go through the lighting programs, make it strobe anytime and turn it off. I love using the remote so I can change the light patterns or select a single color anytime from my DJ booth. It could only be better if it were wireless!

Novation Launchpad Ableton Live Controller Review

Novation Launchpad Ableton Live Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned one of these for four months and have gotten a good grasp of its relative strengths and weaknesses. The Launchpad is a natural extension for Live's Session View. There is just enough visual information implanted on the interface for you to identify clips easily. The User1 User2 modes are great for a few MIDI triggers but lack any serious expression as the pads themselves aren't velocity sensitive. The mixer mode might be useful for some but I never touch it due to the limited resolution of expression and the immediacy required for their proper function (if minimalism is your goal in this department, seek the Korg nanoKONTROL USB Controller, Black). The saving grace, outside of its Session mode, is the user created software. The Launchpad has been transformed into a monome like device, a visual harmonic table, a step sequencer and a few other creative apps that are hard to describe in a concise fashion. When loading Live 8.1.1 (Vista) the Launchpad will sometimes not be detected and will need to be replugged into the USB port and Live restarted (it only seems to happen less than 3% of the time).
Physically the device seems sturdy 'enough' it has fallen a few feet onto a rug a couple times but I wouldn't call it 'road worthy' since it's still made of plastic. The pads have a nice soft rubber texture though kinetically clunky when being pressed dead center. There is a decent amount of give on the pads before it triggers but in practice it isn't a big deal especially without velocity sensitivity. The LED lights aren't entirely uniform in brightness and color. You might receive a unit with a few slightly brighter pads or ones that display more red but it's only noticeable when all pads are lit up of the same color.
I don't know of any other open grid interface device that comes close to its price which probably explains the $199 price tag. Regardless of the competition, the Launchpad feels more like a $100-$150 device (due to aforementioned limitations of the device). When all said and done, I would buy one again if I had to. There isn't anything on the market right now at this price for the utility you gain from having it. The Akai APC40 Abelton Performance Controller might be an alternative solution if you don't have any other control devices for Live and don't need its alternative functions or its minimalism.

The compact Novation Launchpad is designed to give electronic music makers the most interactive experience possible in Ableton Live. Jointly designed by Ableton and Novation, Launchpad communicates bi-directionally with the software to give you real-time session feedback. With a multi-color 64-button grid and dedicated scene launch buttons, Launchpad can trigger and manipulate clips in Live as well as provides a totally new way of controlling Ableton Live's mixer. Launchpad's buttons can be used to sketch out beats with drum racks, and they can be assigned to other functions in Live using Ableton's Learn mode.
The device is bus-powered from a single USB connection, and has a ten-inch square desktop footprint. Rubber feet ensure Launchpad stays secure on the surface on which it's placed, and an optional padded neoprene travel sleeve is available. The Launchpad ships with a dedicated Launchpad edition of Ableton Live 8, but it can also control almost any other music software using Novation's award-winning Automap control software. It's compatible with both Mac OS and Windows operating systems.

Key Features
Launch clips and scenes: Launchpad's 64-button grid and dedicated scene launch buttons are ideal for launching and controlling your clips and scenes.
Innovative control over your mix: Including volume, pans, sends, track arming, soloing and muting. Launchpad lets you jump to different levels across eight channels at once.
Sketch out beats: Launchpad can be used to play drum racks, creating beats and triggering samples in real time.
Controlling other functions Launchpad can be used to control other functions using Ableton's 'Learn' mode. This includes Ableton's knobs and faders, which can be assigned to rows of buttons on Launchpad.
Multiple unit operation: Connect up to 6 Launchpads at a time. Expand your grid with multiple Launchpads, or have one Launchpad dedicated to mixer mode, and the other to launching clips.
Expand your Ableton control solution: Novation's Automap-enabled controllers work seamlessly together--a ZeRO SL MkII to control the mix, whilst Launchpad triggers clips.
Automap-enabled: Launchpad can control other DAWs and plug-ins using Novation's Automap control software. Automap can assign controls to software parameters on VST/AU/RTAS/TDM plug-ins by simply clicking on them, and touching a controller.
See what you're triggering: Automap provides a customizable heads-up transparent display across your computer screen. Ideal for seeing at a glance samples that you're about to trigger.
QWERTY keyboard shortcuts: Automap PRO, an optional upgrade available to purchase online, lets you assign almost any computer keyboard shortcut, and combinations thereof, to Launchpads buttons.
Old-school MIDI control: Utilizing Automap, Launchpad can operate as a standard MIDI controller, creating custom MIDI maps with 72 of its buttons transmitting either CC or MIDI note data.
Flexible trigger platform for Max MSP and Reaktor programmers: Programmers can utilize variable brightness and multi-color LED states to their full advantage when designing new and innovative tools in Max MSP and Reaktor.
Launchpad and Max for Live: Max is a visual programming environment that allows you to custom build instruments and effects. Launchpad can be used to control these instruments. For example, parameters on Max for Live's step sequencer can be triggered using Launchpad's buttons. Launchpad gives you a huge amount of visual feedback. Multiple colors and brightnesses across different buttons display visual information about whether the note is on, the velocity, note length, pitch, and whatever else you want to see.

Technics SL-1210M5G Pro Turntable, Black¹ Review

Technics SL-1210M5G Pro Turntable, Blackandsup1;
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Other than the Gold Ltd. Edition Technics turntable, this is the one to make any dj the envy of the block. Expanded pitch adjustable features, braking adjustment settings, and long lasting led illuminator lights and increased anti-skating make this absolutely a spectacular analog machine/ dj instrument. Quality build is superb and built to outlast anything out there in the competitive market... The ONLY minor mistake not used in really completing the whole package is a lack of a key adjust control. Basically, with a key adjust you can speed up or slow down the beats or the music without vocalists sounding like chipmunks, or Barry White speaking in slow motion ! Key adjust just changes the speed of the music and vocals, not the pitch or tune...This is just a small bonus feature that would have been nice to have; Denon and another company name have already done this for their brand of DJ turntables...

Chauvet Vue3.1 Vue Series Lighting Review

Chauvet Vue3.1 Vue Series Lighting
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The picture shown at the time of this review is the older model Vue III. Not the Vue 3.1. The differences are...
The III is,
Square sheet metal
Has dip switches
Larger
Weighs more.
The 3.1 is...
Round aluminum
Has a digital readout/ input
Smaller
Weighs less.
That's all I've noticed.
Now on to the review...
What a light!!!
This is one of the best lights for the least $ out there at the moment. Chauvet claims it's like a fireworks display and they aren't kidding. Simply stunning to watch in action. If you want to see what it puts out go to Youtube and watch a video of one. In my opinion the Vue 1.1 doesn't do enough for the $. The 2.1 and 4.1 rotate, and don't put out as large of an overall pattern, which may or may not be what you're looking for. I already have a 2.1 and love it, but I still had to have a 3.1 when I saw it. The 2.1 left sections of the ceiling bare and I needed to fill it with something.
The Mic is very well attuned to whatever's playing, and the variety of the show is simply hypnotic. This also puts out a lot of light, and will brighten a room when it's running. If you're wanting to keep the light in a room low for mood, you may want to look elsewhere.
It's well constructed, in either version, and runs silent from what I can tell. A super light.
I don't run DMX so I can't give info on that, but my rig is chained for power from light to light and it works fine.

Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol X1 Performance DJ Controller Review

Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol X1 Performance DJ Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Traktor X1 Dj Controller is a total game changer for me and my mixing. I have been using 3 technics and vinyl for more than a decade - but Traktor Pro and the X1 changed my mind. It works far better than I imagined and since you can program it, I can actually control all 4 virtual turntables (or even use my some of my actual turntables through the inputs for sampling and effects in real time along with the virtual turntables.) Native Instruments say that they intended this to be merely an effects controller, but I have found that with the right programing (available on their site) you can control all 4 decks, 4 built in samplers, and all of their amazing effects all with this device. I am totally impressed.

Chauvet Mushroom Review

Chauvet Mushroom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the chauvet mushroom about 2 weeks ago, it seems to work as advertised, but the issue I have with it is the sound activation seems very random , the beams either jerk left or right a bit, or spin constantly and it seems that unless you barely turn the knob then the sound activation doesn't work at all, (there is really no variable sound level input it's on or off) overall I am unimpressed with chauvet products I also purchased a chauvet B250 bubble machine that was basically a squirt gun that shot bubble juice all over everything and blew about 50 bubbles a min (a 5 year old with a bubble wand could do better and spill less fluid)I used the recommended "chauvet bubble juice" that costs twenty bucks a gallon and tried the regular cheapo juice the cheap stuff actually worked better maybe 70 bubbles a min at five bucks a gallon...... I think that chauvet products are hit or miss (mostly miss from my experience so far).

Chauvet CIRRUS Review

Chauvet CIRRUS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got my Chauvet Cirrus and am in awe of the effects it produces. The other review is correct about the sound active mode, it turns on the red or green lasers or both with the beats of the music while the blue background LED 'wash' is on constantly. This light should be set where you can get to the control panel as the effects are adjustable from fast to slow motion and how long each laser is on. A remote control would be an excellent addition even if it was wired to the unit. The thing I did not like and that resulted in the 4 stars rating is the external power supply; these are always a problem when doing a show and you need to plug into power bars where it covers other valuable outlets. They also can get damaged or lost easily and lowers the quality of the light to a toy level. I was only unhappy with the external power supply because the other Chauvet Scorpion lasers I have are much better built.
Don't look at the box or the toy power supply but do look at the wonderful display this puts out and be amazed. Unique and beautiful and fills a large area. Highly recommended.

Chauvet Vue 4.1 Review

Chauvet Vue 4.1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
How to rate this light....?
I guess I'll go at this task in two sections.
1. The light is similar to the other lights in the Vue series, (The 1.1, 2.1, and 3.1). It has a roundish brushed aluminum housing with an adjustable mounting bracket that can be rotated, as well as slid forward or to the rear. It's a DMX light, but will also run in auto or sound active modes. It has a digital display on the rear as well as the standard DMX and power in and out ports. And it has a sound sensitivity adjustment knob, as well as a mic for the sound active mode like the other lights in the Vue series.
This light has a very interesting, and also widely varied, set of patterns that it puts out. The light also rotates the board the LEDs are mounted on for even more variety. Do yourself a favor and look this light up on Youtube to watch a video or two of everything it does. As an LED fixture it runs cool, and has very low power draw. It also runs nearly silent, even in a room with nothing else making sound. It's very lightweight, and super bright as well. An all around great light as far as features and pattern interest goes. It's also a very inexpensive light at the moment, considering the features you get. I originally had bought a Vue 2.1 and was happy with it. Then the price on these dropped and I sold the 2.1 and grabbed one of these to replace it. The extra LEDs and patterns was a no brainer. Or so I thought.
2. Now for the second part of the review.
Can you get a good one?
Here's what happened to me...
I ordered one of these through Amazon, from one of the large music stores that sell this model light. It got here fast, and the box and light were in good outward condition. When I plugged it in there was a section of LEDs out. If you look at the way the LEDs are layed out in this light, there are three elongated "S" shapes that run from the outer edge, through the center of the pattern, and on the the opposite outer edge. One is green, one is red, and one is blue. Half the blue "S" was out in the light they sent me. I took advantage of their excellent return policy and sent it back. I then ordered another light from another of the large music stores that sell these through Amazon, just in case the first place had gotten a bad batch. This second light also got here fast, and again, both the light and outer box were in good condition. But this one had four dead green LEDs in one of the central clusters. I was going to send it back as well, but decided to call Chauvet to see if there was a simple fix that might save me the extra time and hassle of another return. Sadly the only fix was a part replacement or another exchange. They sent me a new LED board, since I told them I was familiar with electronics and could replace it without too much trouble. The replacement board showed up two days later from Fed Ex and I installed it. Unfortunately the replacement had half of a red "S" section dead on it. That's three for three defects in these boards. I called Chauvet back to see if they would have any problem with me swapping some good LEDs from the replacement board, with the four dead ones on my second lights board. They gave me the thumbs up, and after some LED soldering, the light was fixed. It's been working fine now for over a week.
In short, the 4.1 is an amazing light, if you get a good one, and Chauvet is super easy to deal with if you have a problem.
If you get a dud, you may go through several of them before you find one that works fresh out of the box.
I don't know what to say about longevity. This light has a two year warranty on it from the factory, and it may be needed, since the ones I've had were both new and defective from the get go. They obviously have some manufacturing problems with the LED board. But that doesn't necessarily mean the light won't hold up over time. I guess I'll find out over the next two years.
If you get a good one the light gets five stars.
If you don't get a good one out of the box, it gets much harder to rate them.
I'll post any further problems if they arise.

American DJ Supply ENFERNO Special Effects Lighting Review

American DJ Supply ENFERNO Special Effects Lighting
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this product directly from American DJ. Their shipping and customer service was very good. The product, however, did not look like the picture, but still gives the flame effect I needed for our fireplace display. The Silk Flame had to be shipped to me later because it was missing from the box. It would have been a great product if it worked right. It worked for what we needed, but it was frustrating because the lights would go out with the slightest nudge to the base. I will note that I did buy it at a DISCOUNTED price and the product was advertised as being "blemished." I called American DJ and they assured me it worked and the base was just dented. Maybe if I had bought it brand new it wouldn't have the same problems I had with it? Anyway, I gave it three stars because only one light was working consistently the whole time we needed it. I don't know how reusable it will be because of this. I wish they would come up with a similar product that's a lot more sturdy. Will add a video review later.
