It is made of plastic and requires a foam "filler pad" in order for it to sit in the hitch properly (other wise there is a 1/2 inch gap and it can raddle around). The only thing I don't like about it is that it only comes on when there is power to the left tail light (turn signal, running lights, or brake light). Basically this means that there are only 2 wires to it, ground and the left signal wire. I would have liked to see it come on for either signal which would mean it would need a total of 3 wires. Other than that, I love the product and would definitely order another one.
