(More customer reviews)I have had these on my car for two seasons now. They work fine, they're a good beam pattern for use in fog, and they are small enough to fit most places. Very shallow depth. I run acrylic clear covers to protect them from rocks, but my guess is that the glass is the highest quality part of these and they'll resist damage as well as any glass lamp.
The beam itself stays fairly well isolated in the beam pattern, which can be a problem for some cheap fog lamps... but within that pattern the beam is actually surprisingly blotchy and uneven. Hella made a better lamp at the price point than anyone else has done, but they took a large step down the optical-quality ladder if you compare the beam to the old fluted glass parabolic lenses of the old 500.
Otherwise you get the same thin reflector, plastic backed shallow lightweight lamp that the 500 is famous for... a great lamp if you're looking for something round in the fog.
But don't be surprised if you're looking for hella's old value ratio- you're not going to get it with these, at least optically.
Still way better than anything else under 100 dollars, but to say the optics could not be improved upon is a flat-out lie.
Get these if you can't spend more. Live without if you want to spend less.
