American DJ UV LED Bar 16 Led Powered High Output Blacklight Wash Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This unit is bright, and anything flourescent in its narrow beam will light up nicely. It also has the ability to strobe and has DMX control. It's small and moderately light. I found it especially impressive when shone on my flourescent tie-dye shirts when I stood in the beam.
Disadvantages include that it has a narrow beam. It won't light up a whole room well or function as a wide wash. Also, the UV wavelength of this unit is 390-410 nm. True "black lights" are typically around 375 nm. A black light at 375 nm will be hard to see much if you look at the actual bulb, but it lights up flourescent objects around it. This unit, at 390--410nm emits a lot of visible purple light. This may or may not be an issue depending on your application--on stage with other lights it may not matter. In a Halloween haunted house that is otherwise very dark, a lot of visible purple light may ruin the dark effect.
If you want a true "black light" effect, you still have to go with the traditional tube flourescent bulbs. For example, the American DJ UV Panel HD has 4 flourescent tube bulbs and is rated at 375 nm. That will give you a truer "black light" effect.
So if you're looking for an UV light with a narrow beam and it will not be used in a totally dark setting, this unit is light, convenient, bright, and will probably last a long time. If you're looking for a more "black light" effect, go with flourescent tubes rather than LED's.
