Band Stand Music Lamp Review

Band Stand Music Lamp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an absolutely horrible product. At first glance, it seems extremely durable, and the clamp is very strong. However, upon placing it on the stand, it droops down and covers up the music. When I tightened the two nuts on each of the screws, it seemed to be fine, but it began to droop again the next day. I also noticed that it had scratched my brand-new music stand, as only one side of the clamp has a rubber pad. In addition, it does not sit properly ont he stand when the metal arm is tilted at an angle less than 90 degrees. Finally, the cord, rather than coming out of a hole in the metal shade, simply drops down from inside the shade, which makes it hard to adjust.
I am very disappointed by this lamp, and I will be sending it back. I am appalled that it received a 5-star review, and that it is so expensive.

Monster Pro Power FlexLamp - XLR LED LightSource - 10 inch Review

Monster Pro Power FlexLamp - XLR LED LightSource - 10 inch
Average Reviews:

I can't believe how bright this thing is. It's a good thing my Monster power supply has a dimmer. This thing is almost too much light. It's pricy, but you should only have to buy it once. I bought the super long one. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably buy the 5" instead. It gets in the way a bit. But if you're thinking of buying an XLR lamp, this one has an incredible amount of light.

Super 2 Dual Arm LED Music Stand Light with a Set of Batteries Included Review

Super 2 Dual Arm LED Music Stand Light with a Set of Batteries Included

I found that this light is perfect for a music stand during a performance. Better yet it works great if you have a Kindle from Amazon. It attaches to the top of the Kindle and gives off enough light to see only using one of the arms. Being able to adjust the arms cuts any kind of glare that shows up. A GREAT BUY!!!

Lotus Light by Lotus Design: Rechargeable 9 LED Music Stand Light Review

Lotus Light by Lotus Design: Rechargeable 9 LED Music Stand Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This light, by Lotus Design has been updated and now has 17 LED's instead of 9 in the same form factor. See it at [...].
I was looking for a rechargeable battery powered music stand light. At age 45, my eyes have begun to need more light (in addition to my reading glasses) in order to see printed music clearly. I've seen and tried several different portable designs. What I like about this one is that it uses a Lithium Ion battery so you can recharge it at any time without worrying about first fully discharging it. Also, it reaches a full charge in about 2 hours yet lasts at medium power (with NO dimming and ample brightness) for 5 hours - plenty for even the longest overtime gig. In a pinch, it can also run directly off the included AC adapter.
The 17 super-bright LED's provide plenty of bright white light to cover 2 pages across a stand and even 3 pages can be lit adequately.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the exposed IC board holding the LED's inside the shade. It seems that a lens or diffuser of some sort would provide some protection for this. I haven't had it for very long but I anticipate that the unit will need to be carefully packed inside my gig bag when not in use or this part of the unit could become damaged.
Some nice features of this unit are that: it includes a 10" gooseneck that allows you to adjust the light to any position you might need on a music stand; the base unit has LED's to indicate that the unit is charging or that it has reached a full charge; it includes a lightweight carry bag for the unit. When you remove the stand clip, the entire unit can be made flat for storage inside the bag. Finally, the light is a bit costly. I found it for $99 including shipping. This might seem steep at first, but some other rechargeable LED lights out there run $40 - $60 and do not include the rechargeable batteries nor the A/C adapter. This is the nicest package in this category of light that I have found.
Update: After using this light for a year now, my concerns about it holding up have proven to be unfounded. The light works great and has held up perfectly. It's the brightest, whitest light on the bandstand at every gig and everybody that see it wants to get one for themselves. I'm very happy with my light!

Not so bright after all. The GigLight is much brighter and provides much better coverage on the music stand.

Mighty Bright Triple LED Music Stand Light (Black With Batteries) Review

Mighty Bright Triple LED Music Stand Light (Black With Batteries)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The light is considerably brighter than a single-lamp gooseneck and comes with its own "gig bag," but the added brightness proved inadequate to the task of peering over the top of a Manhasset stand and illuminating a score. In fact, I couldn't keep the light from shining in my eyes, making it more--not less--difficult to read the music. Unfortunate, since the design (it telescopes into a trim-looking jacknife-size device and has an extremely generous-sized clip) is well thought out. But before the first number was concluded, I was borrowing an electrical lamp. These portable, battery-operated lights are occasionally useful for reading a book, but I have yet to find one that can make good on its claims to light a music stand.
[I'll give it a 4th star because looking at it the next day I can't understand why I had difficulty making it focus on the music. Perhaps I didn't have it fully extended.]

Mighty Bright 53510 Orchestra Light, with Adapter and Bag Review

Mighty Bright 53510 Orchestra Light, with Adapter and Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For a long time, the stand light with the long incandescent bulb has been the de facto standard. Unfortunately they're power hungry (forget running them on batteries), hot, and the bulbs burn out easily, especially if jostled when hot. Finally, the hinges get loose after a while, and few things are more annoying on a gig than a droopy stand light.
This light eliminates all of the negatives of the traditional stand light, while retaining its wide coverage and bright light. The color is on the cool side (it's distinctly blue-violet) but not enough to mess with color perception if you are one to use highlighters or other color markings on your music. It's lightweight. It will run on batteries or from AC. Nicest of all, it is completely cool to the touch and won't burn out from being bumped.
While it may initially appear to be expensive, it is far superior to the cheaper offerings and includes the bag, adapter, and one set of batteries. If you figure the adapter is worth ten bucks, and realize it has NINE white LEDs, the price suddenly seems reasonable. The adapter is also small and won't block sockets on your power strip.
As another reviewer noted, you cannot run it from the adapter with the batteries in. What may not be obvious is that you do not need to pull all three batteries out -- removing any one of the three will break the circuit just as effectively as removing all three. The only other potential drawback of this light is that it has a very wide coverage angle, enough that it may light more than you want lit... like your feet! Since it runs cool, you can tape on a paper hood and not worry about setting it on fire or melting the tape.

Mighty Bright XtraFlex Duet Super LED Music Stand Light Review

Mighty Bright XtraFlex Duet Super LED Music Stand Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have gone through a long series of music stand lights over the last 30 years or so, always trying to find a 'better mousetrap'. I desired a small, lightweight illuminating device that could run without needing to be plugged in and would still take up a minimum of space in my instrument case(s).
My latest is the new XtraFlex Duet lamp from Mighty Bright, a company with lots of different models. The Duet is the dual lamp version of the regular XtraFlex lamp, being identical except for the extra light emitting head.
The base unit is just big enough to hold the battery comprised of three AAA alkaline cells, plus the spring clip mechanism that grabs onto your music stand, music folder, or book. Extending from the top are two narrow goosenecks that terminate in penny-sized LED heads, one super-bright white LED per head. Each head also has an on/off switch and a lens that distributes the LED light over a wide area of about the size of a normal page of music. The goosenecks are flexible enough to allow them to be easily wrapped around the base unit for storage, yet firm enough to support the weight of the LED heads in whatever position you place them.
Having a separate power switch for each head is a nice touch, because if you only need light from one head you can turn the other one off to save battery life. However, I suspect that Mighty Bright just put two gooseneck/head assemblies on a single base unit and shrugged their collective shoulders when they discovered this meant having two power switches. Hard to be sure, but it's the results that count in this case.
Battery life is good, since by my calculations and experiences with other AAA powered LED lamps, you should be able to get quite a few hours out of a battery set.
Brightness is not overwhelming, but is certainly adequate to make pages of music easily legible in even the darkest orchestra pits.
I find that this lamp does a better job of lighting a pair of side-by-side pages than my previous Mighty Bright lamp, the Mighty Bright Triple LED Music Stand Light, which was larger, heavier, could not reach over tall music as well, and was generally less flexible in different situations.
I would rate this lamp 5 stars, except for the slightly lower than desired build quality---professionals would like to see a device that is just a bit less typical-Chinese-plastic......for example, a pro who uses a lamp frequently, or a church that uses them twice a week for hand bell choir rehearsals and services (for example), might expect to change batteries often enough that they would appreciate beefed up version.
Still, a very nice lamp fairly priced at about $20.
