This flashlight is a league above normal, cheap, use-and-lose flashlights and even a step above the LED flashlights you see for discount prices all over the Net. This light is a heavy-duty, SERIOUS contender for people that rely on light for their safety and tasks (e.g., firemen, policemen, security guards, EMTs) because of its all-aluminum construction. This light is solid, dense and feels good in the hand. It can be carried underhand style or like a traditional flashlight. The aluminum body is important in high-powered lights because it can act as a heat sink to dissipate heat coming from the light assembly. The switch is conveiently located in the rear of the light and this offers a pushbutton operation for temporary light, or a full cap turn to keep the light on. As a precaution against accidental button use and battery drainage, this light, features, as do most Inova lights, a special quarter-turn lock out that prevents the button from turning the light on. However, this lock-out does not compromise the heavy-duty seal with rubber o-ring and silicone grease that keeps out water and dust. This light is tough. You can drop it in a puddle and it keeps going. The anodized exterior will fend off scratches and the glass front is tough and hard to break. The circular shape and all-metal body mean that the frame can take a lot of crushing weight without being damaged. Inova also listened to their customers and have put a STRONG lanyard hole in the rear cap that can be easily threaded with paracord for a perfect wrist loop.
As to the light itself, you won't be disappointed. Inova uses Luxeon Star LEDs, which are high-output LED lights designed for extended usage. Unlike most "super-bright" LED lights (which are just common tiny LEDs being overfed current to be brighter at the cost of reduced lifetime), these are TRUE 1 watt output LEDs with the EXTENDED lifespan and higher efficiency true to the LED name. Furthermore, this light is regulated, meaning that the circuitry will ensure a steady power draw from the batteries so that if the light advertises 2 hours of use, you will get 2 hours of use at FULL intensity and then maybe 1 or 2 hours of use at a very dim intensity. This thing won't take 65% of your lithium batteries and then go dim; it will suck every last milliamp from the cells and then you know you got your money's worth. To be sure the light goes where you need it, Inova designed the TIROS optical system to focus the light into a useful spot, with plenty of sidespill for area work. This light is easily visible from a mile away and can illuminate areas 40' at night. Get your CR123 batteries online (where they can be as low as $1.50 each!) and stock up. This is the flashlight you will want on your hunting, fishing, camping and vacation trips and this is the light you will reach for when you hear something go bump in the night. I have owned this light for a year now and have nothing but good things to say about it!
I own an Inova X5, X2, X1 and this X0 and I can't imagine how I got along with those regular flashlights before this.
