I purchaced these from Amazon on August 6, 2009. Within a week the lamps had condensation in them, so much it was forming into visible beads of water. I returned these lamps within Amazons 30 day policy and exchanged them. August 25,the second set was ordered (as part of the exchange) and was installed.
Within a week, I had some condensation in both lamps. It never appeared very bad, so I left them. During the winter, they started to really deteriorate. I have moisture in one, and the other has lost ALL the reflective coating and burned out the Halo ring. The moisture had to come from the seal between the glass and the housing, it does not appear that the rubber seal on the back for the bulb is compromised in any way. The rear of the bulbs are as new as the day I got them.
I mounted these in my 03 Celica GTS Action Package bumper, that was designed to hold a 4" fog light. They were mounted right side up and were protected by the bumper as well as the under panels of my car from direct moisture.
Amazon in its wisdom, does not allow me to link to the photo of the lamps as they look now, so I have included a picture in the user photos above in this item listing. Amazon also sold this item under a different part number or vendor, and I posted there as well, but again, I can not link to this other listing either.
Also on a side note, to install these, I need to remove the bumper (front end) from my car, so it's not a simple matter of unbolting them. Thats why it was months between noticing the problem and pulling the part out.
I am hoping that I can contact Hella for some sort of warranty, as any warranty with Amazon is no longer in place. With a little luck, (I haven't checked yet) I have a one year warrnaty thru them.
UNACCEPTABLE. (I would give these NO stars if I could.)UPDATE 5-18-10
I can not find any info on warranty, so I'm not holding out for a resolution. I see from another poster here he was not able to get any assistance from Hella. He had the same issue I did.
I bought a cheaper set to replace these from W_L*M_RT, (4" blue glass lense) and its actually been raining really good here for several days, and they have not had any issues what so ever. So a $23 set of lamps outlasts these Hella's
SAD.
