I bought two of these for my 2006 Silverado 1500 to give me some more light when driving in the desert. They do not disappoint! I mounted them behind the stock grill, just in front of the radiator. They provide an excellent beam pattern and a good amount of extra light with the 100w bulbs. The mount for these lights are great, and they are very easy to adjust with a decent amount of play up/down & side/side. Replacement of the bulbs is pretty simple with just 4 hex screws on the outer ring.
One thing I was unsure about when I bought these was the wiring and the expensive harness that's sold separately! I couldn't find any information on how these are wired because they want you to spend $60+ on their wiring harness kit. I was not about to spend that much money for a few simple wires, a fused relay, and an ugly switch! I was concerned that you needed that harness to plug into the proprietary connector on the back of the lamp housing, but that is not the case. These lights each come with a small waterproof harness w/ 2 wires that plug into the back of the lamp. Unless you have absolutely no clue about wiring and relays, you do NOT need to order the $60+ wiring harness they sell to get these to work. Just get a fuse (20a is fine), some 16-12ga wire, a standard 12v auto relay and a switch. That should save you at least $20-$40 depending where you get them. On the included harness, the brown wire is the negative lead, and the blue wire is the positive lead(even the included instructions don't mention that!).
I ended up upgrading mine to HID's, which I HIGHLY recommend if you do any serious offroad driving. The difference is night and day, with the HID's being about 3x brighter. Not only that, but they consume only 35w each, compared to 100w each with the halogen bulbs, radically reducing strain on your alternator. The bulb type for these lamps is the H1 and I recommend the 6000k color temp since it's the closest you can get to sunlight, which is 5500k. Halogens are about 3500k, producing more of a yellowish light. If you go higher than 6000k, the color will be more blueish, but they will have less usable light output the higher you go. You can find the upgrade kits(for TWO lights) easily on Amazon or Ebay for anywhere from $60-$100 shipped. You'll end up with a 9" HID for about $150 each that works just as good as Hella's HID's that are $400+ each.
