I installed these on Jan 1, 2009 - here are my impressions of the bulb, the manufacturer, and the distributor:
-I wanted an extra bright blue/white headlamp (instead of yellow), which wasn't too high in wattage. I've read awful things about the Sylvania basic, "cool blue", and other cheaper Sylvania bulbs - they die after a few months, in some cases, a few weeks! The higher priced bulbs seem to last longer, but they are outrageously expensive.
((**WARNING** Do not buy cheap, over-the-counter headlamp replacements by Sylvania, or from Walmart. They will not last - you will waste your money, time, and energy.))
-The dealership only had white and yellow (no blue), and wanted $90 for the cheap set!! I checked my other local sources (AutoZone, OReilly, etc), and their least expensive set was $45. I decided to look further.
-I found many blue Ion/Xenon bulbs online, but many of them were higher wattage. I wanted to stay under 90 watts - OEM for my vehicle were 55-65 watts, and the recommendation was to stay under 90.
((**WARNING** check your manual before buying a high powered bulb - it may burn out your wiring, or blow your fuse, or even your fuse panel. Fuse panels are not immune to heavy loads - they can melt, causing an expensive mess!))
-I found these "Texon" lights for sale by Qeasily LLC. This is a "private label" product, so I believe he is the only distributor. I believe they came from California - and I'm 90% certain these are a Chinese import. My impression is this guy orders bulk electronics and accessories from China, then sells them online. I'm skeptical of cheap Chinese imports, but I suppose it's no different than most of the headlamps on the market today.
-I ordered the replacements for $15.95 for the set, plus $4.99 shipping. The seller doesn't have great feedback, but I had no problems. They came in about a week.
-These are probably 50% brighter (or more) than the OEM headlamps. I was immediately happy with the look and brightness. They are blue-white, and illuminate well. The brights work great, too.
-In my opinion, headlamps should last at least 3-5 years. However, when you opt for brightness & high-output, they will definitely burn out sooner. So I don't know what kind of life to expect - I'm happy so far, but we will see.
-I've had them 3 months, and they seem to be holding up just fine. I promise if they burn out prematurely, I will log in and update this review.
I hope this helps - happy headlamp shopping!
